Chittagong is the second largest and main seaport in Bangladesh. It has historically been important center of commerce due to its geo-strategic location and regarded as the commercial capital of the country. The city is well known for its scenic beauty, unique combination of hillocks in the north, flat land limited by the river Karnaphuli at the southeast, Halda river valley on the northeast and on the west is the seacoast lines the Bay of Bangle.
Surrounding mountains and rivers make the city attractive. Karnaphuli River coming from the hill tracts flows into the Bay of Bengal by the south of the city. Chittagong is gateway to the country’s export and import.
It is also a major industrial center as large numbers of the industries of Bangladesh are situated here. It is situated within 22°-14´ and 22°-24´-30´´ N Latitude and between 91°-46´ and 91°-53´ E Longitude and on the Right Bank of the river Karnaphuli. |
